The song writer says “when I remember He is coming again, I shout hallelujah …” To the expectant pilgrim, the certainty of the second advent of Jesus comes with joy because; it is the consummation of his/her faith. Meanwhile, as we expect His coming, we find certain Holy Ghost inspired acts by the fathers, as documented in the Bible, which facilitated the free move of God in that generation. Smith Wigglesworth said, “The Apostles acted, hence the book of Acts of the Apostles.” The third law of motion in elementary science says “actions and reactions are equal and opposite.” In the same fashion, our actions provoke heavens reaction that results in our experience of God. Consequently, I want us to commence our meditations this year with how it all began with the apostles after the ascension of Jesus. Acts of the Apostles 1:14 says:
These all continued with one accord in prayer and supplication, with the women, and Mary the mother of Jesus, and with his brethren. (KJV)
King James Version says “…they continued with one accord…” God’s Word version says “…the Apostles had a single purpose…” The Message version says “…they agreed they were in this for good…” Oneness was the foundation of the great move of God as recorded in Acts of Apostles. The church of Jesus, founded on the platform of unity in Acts of Apostles, was a terror to the power that be in those days. For instance, Herod the terror became Herod the terrified, the dead rose, prison doors flung open and the lame jumped for joy by the pronouncement of hitherto ordinary Jewish citizens. Why? They belonged to the church of Christ founded and operated by the power of unity. Behold, how good and how pleasant it is for brethren to dwell together in unity! For there the Lord commanded the blessing, even life for evermore. Psalm 133:1-3
Let’s pay attention to this phrase in the scripture above “…for there the Lord commanded the blessing…” God commands the blessing in the place of unity! God, in nature, has shown us how much can be achieved when we are united. For instance, there is a limit to what only one arm can achieve but, combining the two arms will achieve tremendous results at no damage to your biceps. In Genesis 11:6, The LORD said, “They are one people with one language … Now nothing they plan to do will be too difficult for them.(GW). Brethren, imagine for a moment how powerful the church of Jesus would have become if she had continued the way she started. Imagine for a moment how much we would have achieved for the Lord Jesus if we had kept the feast without the leaven of disunity?
Paradoxically enough, the challenge facing the church now is far greater than it was at the beginning meanwhile, access to God’s power (unity of the body) has greatly declined in our generation. What therefore, must we do? We of course must go back to Bethel if we must see God again like before. You know what, we are always the variable, and God is always the constant. (Malachi 3:6). If anything must change, we are the ones to change. If the world must bow to Christ, we must deliberately bring down the walls of separation and lift the banner of Jesus as a body.
Why are we united? We trust God to take a look at this in the next edition. Until then, if Jesus tarries in His coming, have a glorious New Year.
