The university said in a statement on Tuesday Prof. AdedejiDaramola, the pioneer Rector of Redeemer’s College of Technology, Ogun State, was appointed as its new Deputy Vice – Chancellor.
It said Owens-Ibietook over from the outgoing VC, Prof. Ayandiji Aina and his appointment took effect from November 1, 2019. A professor of Communication, Media and Development, Owens-Ibie has been involved in qualitative research, professional practice in public relations and journalism and development work, according to the statement.
The university said he had coordinated the establishment of the Association of Communication Scholars and Professionals of Nigeria, adding that he had published academic and developmental articles in Nigeria and other parts of the world.
Owens-Ibie, according to the statement, is currently the General Secretary of the ACSPN. The statement said, “Owens-Ibie was a columnist in The Guardian on Sunday and Sunday Punch Newspaper for a decade, and has been a script writer for programmes on television and radio.
“He has served for over 20 years as a panelist on the Diamond Awards for Media Excellence in Nigeria, consulted for international development agencies including the World Health Organization, the United Nations International Children’s Fund, and the United Nations Educational Scientific and Cultural Organization, among others.
“He has facilitated trainings and other capacity-building programmes for government agencies, multinational companies and non-governmental organizations, and has coordinated the development of toolkits for ActionAid Nigeria in the areas of health and women’s right.”
Owens-Ibie, who is a former Federal Government of Nigeria’s postgraduate scholarship beneficiary, is a fellow of the International Institute of Journalism, Berlin, Germany and Salzburg Seminar, Austria, according to the statement.
