“And Jesus said to them, “Can the friends of the bridegroom fast while the bridegroom is with them? As long as they have the bridegroom with them they cannot fast. But the days will come when the bridegroom will be taken away from them, and then they will fast in those days.” Mark 2:19-20 (NKJV)

Then the disciples came to Jesus privately and said, “Why could we not cast it out?” So Jesus said to them, “Because of your unbelief; for assuredly, I say to you, if you have faith as a mustard seed, you will say to this mountain, ‘Move from here to there,’ and it will move; and nothing will be impossible for you. However, this kind does not go out except by prayer and fast.” Matthew 17:19-21 (NKJV)

The discipline of fast is very interesting but the manner at which we break it is where the problem lies. Though, fast is very enjoyable, it is noted that breaking the fast, if it is done in a wrong way, may be very painful and, a times, cause damages to our systems. In view of these, l have decide to spell out the ‘dos’ and ‘don’ts’ of breaking fast.

What is fast.

➡️ Deliberate abstinence from physical gratification. Psa. 35:13.

➡️Going without food for a set time to achieve a greater spiritual goal.

➡️Intentionally denying the flesh in order to gain a response from the spirit.

➡️Renouncing the natural in order to invoke the supernatural. Dan. 9: 2-23

1. Absolute or total fast( fast without food throughout)
2. Partial fast. ( breaking daily for a period of time)

Nature of fast.

1. Long fast ( from 7 to 14, 21, or 40 days.)
2. Short fast. (1-3 days)

Preparation for fast.

It depends on the nature of the fast being embarked on and your physical capability in term of age and strength.

A week before you embark in a long fast (14 days upwards) eat very small quantity of meals daily and abstain from sugary foods and caffeine to prepare yourself for total fast. Abstaining from sugary food in preparation for your long fast period would safe you from headache and joint pains in the first few days of the fast.

What to eat while BREAKING.

No big deal when the fast is just for 1-3 days. This also applies to a fast that is not absolute no mater the number of days.

When engaging in a long absolute fast,

➡️Make sure you drink adequate water every day. Your body systems need more water while fast than when you are not.

➡️If you develop sour throat during a long absolute fast, it indicates that your body lacks VITAMIN-C. Then, you need to drink orange liquid or any other fruit juice rich in vitamin. Fresh fruit juice is highly recommended please.

➡️For those in Nations with the extreme cold weather of Winter, for no reason at all should you fill your stomach with cold substances. Abstain totally from drinking cold liquids. Your body must be kept warmth all the time. You should therefore make sure you take hot liquid in the evening; preferably warm water or GREEN TEA.

Breaking long absolute fast (from 21 days and above)

➡️For at least 5 days, DO NOT TAKE SOLID FOOD.

➡️Avoid any form of food with hot pepper and salt while breaking a long fast. Peppery and salty food will give you a serous stomach disorder.

➡️Please break slowly, don’t obey the grumbling and demand of your stomach for more food: during the first five days, give at least 10 Hours interval in-between the soft meals you are breaking with. This will save your stomach from disorder. Avoid these meals for at least 10 days: Cooked Beans with or without oil, Yam Porridge and Green Vegetable Soup. Like Peppery and salty food, they may give you stomach disorder if taken In breaking a long fast.

Don’t worry about the physical weakness and weight reduction – Psa. 108:24. It is natural, but don’t be tempted to do any vigorous assignment during the breaking process.

Two strangers read the epitaph of Jesus to Him as a man who was exceptional and important to God and mankind. Leadership means growing your capacity to have an exceptional relationship with God and give exceptional value to mankind.

And they came to Jericho: and as he went out of Jericho with his disciples and a great number of people, blind Bartimaeus, the son of Timaeus, sat by the highway side begging. And when he heard that it was Jesus of Nazareth, he began to cry out, and say, Jesus, thou Son of David, have mercy on me. And many charged him that he should hold his peace: but he cried the more a great deal, Thou Son of David, have mercy on me. And Jesus stood still, and commanded him to be called. And they call the blind man, saying unto him, be of good comfort, rise; he calleth thee. And he, casting away his garment, rose, and came to Jesus. And Jesus answered and said unto him, what wilt thou that I should do unto thee? The blind man said unto him, Lord, that I might receive my sight. And Jesus said unto him, Go thy way; thy faith hath made thee whole. And immediately he received his sight, and followed Jesus in the way. Mark 10:46-52.

In the Scriptures and history, the outcomes of crying out for divine solution have repeatedly resulted into divine intervention. The passage above is an example of such incident. Operating in the realm of prayer like Bartimaeus did would produce a desired turning point of our destiny.

First, praying to God produces news of joy and gladness. When Bartimaeus cried out to God, he experienced divine attention. Mk. 10:49. As we seek and cry out to God, you will hear the good news of joy and gladness. Psalm 51:8.

Secondly, operation Prayer Bartimaeus would put an end to stagnation and begging. His struggling and wasted life continued until he cried out. Such has happened to a nation before;

They wandered in the wilderness in a solitary way; they found no city to dwell in. Hungry and thirsty, their soul fainted in them. Then they cried unto the Lord in their trouble, and he delivered them out of their distresses. Psalm 107:4-6.

It is in crying out to God that we can come out of troubles and be delivered from all forms of distresses.

Again, if we intensify our prayers like Bartimaeus, then amidst all contending oppositions, our situation would be gloriously changed. Almost everybody around opposed him, but in the midst of all these, the glory of the Lord smiled on him.

Furthermore, when your voice for divine intervention penetrates into God’s presence, the enemies of your progress would suddenly become friends of your destiny. In Mk. 10:49, it is noted that his previous attackers suddenly became his helpers and comforters. All those who have been standing against you will, from now, begin to stand for you in Jesus Name.

Noticeably, the ultimate goal of communicating with God is a genuine divine intimacy. Bartimaeus ended up following Jesus step by step according to Lk. 10:52. God expects us to have a personal relationship with Him.

Now, let me furnish you with some crucial reasons I believe would encourage you to focus your eyes on God in fervent prayers:

  1. No human being on earth can solve your problems. Bartimaeus was surrounded with people but without solution until Jesus met him.
  2. Many of those around you don’t understand you. Your actions a-times may be strange to people simply because of their ignorance of what you’re passing through. But there is someone who knows everything about you, your Maker. Instead of explaining yourself before men, pour out your heart before the one who is in charge of all your eternal details.
  3. No one is interested when your voice is raised. The reactions of those around Bartimaeus are a universal truth on how people react whenever a voice is raised higher than theirs. It is true in all life’s endeavours: In Religion, politics, business, etc. when your voice becomes louder, you will be dealt with. Why not cry to the one who is interested in you and all yours.

Build your spiritual and mental capacity. Embark on personal development and gather more knowledge your area of specialization. Get more information and apply modern strategies. Don’t remain in the old school when what you need to overcome stagnancy is new technology.
To do things the same way and expect a different result is said to be insanity. To achieve an outstanding result, you must employ and apply a different method. A good coach wins the day by making critical changes and maneuvering the method of play while a good teacher devices new method to transfer knowledge to students.
Ye have not chosen me, but I have chosen you, and ordained you, that ye should go and bring forth fruit, and that your fruit should remain: that whatsoever ye shall ask of the Father in my name, he may give it you. John 15:16. Produce fruits of good works; support missions, be a soul winner not only a bread winner. Soul winning is our Father’s business. You cannot be committed to the course of God and be stranded in life. You will attract His commitment by your commitment.
Excellence is an advantage in the 21st century. Go beyond limits. The world needs impeccable technocrats. Until you are creative, you cannot be lucrative. Do all you can to avoid wishy-washy service. Give your best. You will make progress if you are excellent in your dispositions.
Be sober, be vigilant; because your adversary the devil, as a roaring lion, walketh about, seeking whom he may devour. 1 Peter 5:8. The Bible says, watch and pray. The enemy makes incursions into our concerns during unguarded moments. Be spiritually sensitive and responsive. Don’t let down your guards. Put on the whole armour of God and be ready to stop the enemies of progress before they start their works.
You must take a bold step of faith to overcome stagnation. Take a quantum lip! Four lepers at the gate of Syria took a bold step of faith in those cruel days of famine when people ate their children. Elisha prophesied that there would be abundance of food within 24 hours. It came to pass when these four lepers dared to enter the Syrian city. 2 Kings 7:3-7. The footsteps of four leprous men sounded like the noise of chariots, horses and great host of armies. The Syrians were stampeded out of their city and the lepers had a foretaste of the abundance prophesied. The siege was over; famine gave way to abundance.
There are two financial systems: the financial system of the earth and heaven. We are acquainted with both but tend to transact more with the former. We save money in the bank, seek overdraft, etc. This is good. The financial system of heaven includes offerings, tithes, first fruits, pledges, etc.
While you can only withdraw the money saved in the bank, sometimes with interest, you can withdraw money, health, favour, divine speed, open doors, etc, if you make deposits in the Bank Of Heaven. The Bank Of Heaven says give and you will receive in 30, 60 and 100 fold. The Bank Of Heaven says deposit your first fruits and experience overflow of returns: Honour the LORD with thy substance, and with the first fruits of all thine increase: So shall thy barns be filled with plenty, and thy presses shall burst out with new wine. Prov. 3:9-10
The Bank Of Heaven says deposit your tithe and experience victory over agents of stagnation called devourers. You cannot bind and loose devourers. Tithe is the antidote to the devastating power of devourers. Protect your business and sustain your prosperity by regularly, promptly and correctly remitting your tithe.
