We join millions of people all over the world to celebrate the life of sacrifice and commitment to the purpose of God exemplified by Pastor E. A. Adeboye. His desire to turn his life into a platform to bless other people gave birth to the Holy Ghost Service some 33 years ago. He had heard God ask him, “My son, what will you want me to give you as your birthday present?” The response could have been anything depending on what the heart dictated.
Adeboye wanted to make his life count, he desired to impact the lives of others and become a solution to their challenges. He replied God, “I want a miracle for every member of my congregation.” True to the word in John 14:14, “If ye shall ask anything in my name, I will do it”, God responded by asking him to gather the people and for 7 days in March 1986, the people assembled for that special programme filled with miracles, signs and wonders. That singular gathering grew to what is now a monthly Holy Ghost Service every first Friday in Nigeria and regular event in about 196 countries where RCCG is established with thousands of lives being blessed.
Psalm 90:12 confirms to us that we all have only one life to live and it is a fleeting moment. God has also allowed us to decide how we will use the life He has given us.
Erik Rees, in his book, Only You can be You, says “Some people operate on cruise control, taking things as they come. Others consume their moment, striving to gain everything they can. They live by the motto, “He who dies with the most stuff wins.” Still others make the most of their moment by contributing to the world around them. These are the people who focus on leaving the world better than they found it. Their motto is “He who dies with the most changed lives wins.”
