With harvest there are lots of possibilities. In actual fact, the eternal destinies and rewards of Christians in this world and in the world to come depend a lot on the harvest. It is harvest for the growth and expansion of the kingdom of God on all fronts.
The scriptures make it clear that passion for harvest of souls is a proof of our salvation, love for the Master, love for self and love indeed for our neighbours. It will be so difficult before God to show our love for Him and His kingdom without the passion for the harvest.
Faithful Christian leadership is a drive towards the harvest. All that the leaders do must culminate in a passion for harvest.
It is a passion that is overriding, demanding and consuming. It is a passion that demands all necessary hard work, faith and sacrifices. These, the leader must have and live. This passion for harvest of souls the leader must birth in the followers. There is no disciple without a passion for the harvest. There is no leadership without passion for the harvest.
Passion is a force that burns within man; it is like a seizure, takes hold of you, makes and helps you do more than you are ordinarily capable of doing. The sources of this passion come from intimacy with God which is birthed, sustained and managed by the Holy Spirit as we allow Him.
In the lives of the apostles we see this passion at work. In the lives of Peter, John and Paul in the face of persecution we see the passion. Acts 4:18-20; Galatians 2:20
In following Christ Jesus there must be passion for harvest to be like Him.
The International Leadership Institute describes the core value of passion for harvest this way, ‘God looks for men and women who share a passion for those without Christ. Jesus came to “seek and save the lost.” God desires that everyone be reached with the life-transforming power of Christ.’ (p.27)
No wonder Jesus in a very passionate manner declared the passion for harvest as follows:
John 4:34 – ‘My meat is to do the will of him that sent me, and to finish his work.’
Luke 19:10 – ‘For the Son of man is come to seek and to save that which was lost.’
Jesus gave the Holy Spirit to birth, sustain, equip and empower believers with the passion for the harvest. Acts 1:8; Ephesians 4:11-12
THE LEADER AND THE LOST
It is the responsibility of a faithful leader, to direct and lead people in developing passion for the harvest, living in and improving on the results daily.
THIS PASSION FOR THE HARVEST
Wesley L. Duewel, (Ablaze For God, 1989), declares that a faithful Christian leader must be ablaze for God as set on fire by the Holy Spirit all the time. It is this state of being ablaze that creates and maintains the required passion for the harvest. He must ever long for the power of God, ensuring that the hand of the Lord is ever upon him. He cannot afford the power of God upon his life to be depleted.
This passion for harvest comes from the love for Christ and for souls. The Christian Leader has no alternative but to seek the lost with passion. This passion he must sustain in the place of prayer. His passion and the harvest he must never forget he will account for.
This is the essence of faithful Christian leadership without an option.
