‘’Now therefore take, I pray thee, thy weapons, thy quiver and thy bow, and go out to the field, and take me some venison; and make me savoury meat, such as I love, and bring it to me that I may eat; that my soul may bless thee before I die.’’ Gen 27:3-4. Now, as absurd as this may be, that was the condition given by Isaac for Esau to receive the final blessing from him. Esau had to rouse that blessing from his father.
Provoking blessings is not peculiar to Isaac alone, remember that Solomon had to give God a thousand burnt offerings before the Lord visited him in his dream and said he should ask for whatever he wanted. In this case again, the blessing had to be motivated by an action. “And the king went to Gibeon to sacrifice there; for that was the great high place: a thousand burnt offerings did Solomon offer upon that altar. In Gibeon the LORD appeared to Solomon in a dream by night: and God said, Ask what I shall give thee.” I kings 3:4-5
Many young people today need to get back to the Bible; read, study and follow its instructions in order to live a fruitful and fulfilled life. As young people with a great future, we need to incite blessings from our parents/guardians. We seem to be laid back when it comes to stirring blessings and this will not help anyone in the long run. Sometimes, blessing is like a sleep that one needs to wake up by initiating an action.
Some young people are lazy! Have had cause to tell a young lady that she was lazy and she took it up with me but I explained myself to her without a fight and her eyes were opened. How often do parents/guardians have to remind young people at home to do house chores?
Some young minds are so distracted that their focus is on their phone or laptop. Many young people can hardly do without a phone; once anything happens to their phone, the whole house turns to a house of mourning as the smiles on their faces would be gone and they would continue to fiddle around with the non-functional handset to the detriment of getting the house clean and in order.
Under normal circumstances, your parents/guardians would pronounce a blessing on you when they discover that without being told, you took it upon yourself to always clean the house and put everything in its proper place! On the contrary some youths provoke their parents/guardians to anger because they more often than not wait endlessly for them to get the house clean and do the right thing!
What of obeying simple instructions at home? Many young people always want to assert their freedom at the stage of immaturity. As a result, when parents/guardians give instructions, they flout it because they believe they know what they are doing! Unripe freedom always brings regrets, so, as young people, let us always have it in us that, we are still growing and there is no end to learning.
Instead of revolting always, and bringing confusion and rage in the home, there is a need to come low and provoke blessings from our parents/guardians by displaying positive attitudes within and outside the home. Stop complaining that your parents don’t like you, check yourself and know if you are teachable, humble and submissive to the authority of your parents/guardians.
You must work for a blessing to be pronounced on you! A thousand burnt offerings is a feat and Esau had to take his weapons and go out to the field to get the necessary meat needed to get a blessing from his father. A simple, God bless you, from your parents/guardians is a load of fortunes upon your life. Stir up blessings by doing the right thing at the right time!
