The Most high has a secret place, Psalm 27:5, in the time of trouble; in the time like this, He shall hide me in the secret of His tabernacle. God has a pavilion; a secret place where He hides those who are precious to Him in the time of trouble.

TEXT: PSALM 91:1-10

1He that dwelleth in the secret place of the most High shall abide under the shadow of the Almighty.

2 I will say of the Lord, He is my refuge and my fortress: my God; in him will I trust.

3 Surely he shall deliver thee from the snare of the fowler, and from the noisome pestilence.

4 He shall cover thee with his feathers, and under his wings shalt thou trust: his truth shall be thy shield and buckler.

5 Thou shalt not be afraid for the terror by night; nor for the arrow that flieth by day;

6 Nor for the pestilence that walketh in darkness; nor for the destruction that wasteth at noonday.

7 A thousand shall fall at thy side, and ten thousand at thy right hand; but it shall not come nigh thee.

8 Only with thine eyes shalt thou behold and see the reward of the wicked.

9 Because thou hast made the Lord, which is my refuge, even the most High, thy habitation;

10 There shall no evil befall thee, neither shall any plague come nigh thy dwelling.

1.There is someone called the Most High, that is my God. In Isaiah 66:1, He tells us that heaven is my throne and the earth is my footstool. His throne is the highest.

Ecclesiates 5:8, calls Him the One who is higher than the highest.

Ephsians 1:18-22, in verse 21, His throne is far above all principality, power, might, dominion and kingdom.

Phillipians 2:5-11, God has given Him a name that is above every other name wheather in heaven, on earth and underneath the earth.

So many years ago, four boys were playing somewhere in Aso Rock, and they started boasting about their parents. The son of the president said his father was the greatest because he is the number one man in the country. The son of a physician said his father was the greatest because he is the doctor of the president. The son of a herbalist (witch doctor) claimed that his father was the greatest because he can kill the president and the physician. The son of a messenger said his father – heavenly father (Jesus) is the greatest because He can kill and raise the dead.

2.The Most high has a secret place, Psalm 27:5, in the time of trouble; in the time like this, He shall hide me in the secret of His tabernacle. God has a pavilion; a secret place where He hides those who are precious to Him in the time of trouble. Psalm 61:3-4, Thou hast been a shelter for me, a strong tower from the enemy. The secret place is not the vestry of a church or any special place, the secret place is the name of Jesus. Proverbs 18:10, the name of the Lord is a strong tower: the righteous runs into it, and is safe.

One of my daughters was serving in Port Harcourt, she was traveling from Lagos to Port Harcourt when the highway from the West to Ore and Benin was just made and vehicles could travel at breakneck speed because the road was good. She was one of those that sat at the back of the vehicle. Suddenly, the front tire burst and the car began to somersault, she shouted Jesus as the car was somersaulting the first time, the window of the car was opened and unseen set of hands picked her at the back of the vehicle through the window and sat her at the highway and she watched the car somersaulted five times before it landed on its back.

People saw her sitting by the wayside and she told them she came out of the car, but they did not believe her. The name of the Lord is a strong tower: the righteous runs into it, and is safe.

  1. The Most High is also called the Almighty. Genesis 17:1, the first time God introduced Himself to man by talking to Abraham, He said, I am the Almighty God.

Psalm 62:11 says, God has spoken once; twice have I heard this; that power belongs to God, the real power that makes Him the Almighty.

Jeremiah 32:27 says, “Behold, I am the God of all flesh: is anything too hard for me?” and the answer came in Jeremiah 32:17, “Oh! Lord God, You made heaven and the earth and there’s nothing too hard for you.”

In Luke 1:37, it is written, for with God nothing shall be impossible, that is the meaning of Almighty.

In Matthew 28:18, the Bible says, Jesus came to them and said “all power in heaven and on earth has been given unto me.”

After my wife and I got married, we had our first three children through caesarean operations because the doctor said certain bones were bent somewhere that my wife can’t give birth naturally, so we decided to stop after we had three children.

After we became born again, one day, I was reading Luke 1:37 which says, “for with God nothing shall be impossible.” So I told myself that doctor and the laws of nature might say impossible, but with God, nothing shall be impossible and I told my wife we were going to have another child because I love children.

My wife became pregnant and friends and relatives warned me not to kill my wife and at that time, we had stopped going to the hospital. I had an uncle who was a specialist surgeon, he spoke to me about my religion and the truth concerning the condition of my wife; he said if the baby is extremely small, he may manage to come out, but because my wife has been sutured in three places, at least of the suture would rupture and she would bleed to death. I smiled and told him that it is written that nothing shall be impossible with God. My wife gave birth to my son and he was the biggest we ever had.

One of my friends who is a scientist said nothing is proved scientifically until it can be repeated. We repeated it and got another baby bigger than the first one to show the world that there is someone called the Almighty and His name is JESUS. The Almighty is on your side, shout JESUS again.

4.The Almighty has a shadow, He that dwelleth in the secret place of the Most high shall abide under the SHADOW of the Almighty. Psalm 36:7 says, “How excellent is thy lovingkindness, Oh God! Therefore the children of men put their trust under the shadow of thy wings.” Psalm 57:1 says, “Be merciful unto me Oh Lord, in the shadow of thy wings will I make my refuge. Until all the calamity is passed.” We have a shadow where we can make our refuge.

Isaiah 25:4 says, “For thou has been a strength to the poor, strength to the needy in distress, a refuge from the storm, a shadow from the heat, when the blast from the terrible ones is as a storm against the wall.” The Almighty has a shadow, the shadow is JESUS. Psalm 121:5 says, the Lord is thy keeper: the Lord is thy shield upon thy right hand.

The story of three fishes living in an Ocean where there was a mother and a baby shark that love to eat fish. The three fishes held a prayer meeting and called on God, the Lord came to their prayer meeting and they requested different things from Him.

The first fish requested eyes all over its body; the fish asked God to turn its scales to eyes so that it could see the sharks before coming close to it.

The second fish requested for two powerful wings so that it could fly out of the water. The third fish requested for God’s presence; go with me everywhere I go.

As soon as the Lord left, the fish who wanted eyes had eyes all over its body, the one who wanted wings developed wings and the third fish remained as ordinary as it was before.

When the mother and baby shark were hunting and saw a fish with many eyes they went after it because it was beautiful, the fish saw them and swam towards the beach and jumped into a pool of water and laughed at the sharks. Soon after that, the sun rose, the pool dried and the fish with many eyes died.

The sharks moved toward the fish with wings after losing the fish with many eyes, the fish flew out of the ocean, an eagle saw the fish in its domain and the fish with wings ended up as lunch for the eagle.

The baby shark told the mother shark about the third fish that is not afraid and the mother shark told the baby shark about the shadow of a man following the fish; the shadow will kill any shark that gets closer to it.

The Lord is your shade on your right hand, you might not see God but He is by your side and He is taking care of you and that is why no plague will come near you.

He that dwelleth in the secret place of the Most high shall abide under the shadow of the Almighty, the condition for abiding is dwelling in the secret place of the Most high.

You can’t afford to be a Sunday, Sunday christian; not only at a time like this but for the rest of your life. You just dwell under the shadow of the Almighty. In Psalm 23:6, David says, surely goodness and mercy shall follow me all the days of my life and I will dwell in the house of the Lord forever. If you are one of those who will come to God when you need a miracle and move out after, you will be in trouble.

A man was brought to Ebute Meta several years ago, he had a strange illness; none of his joints could bend and every part of his body was stiff like a rod, he could not bend, get up etc. We prayed a simple prayer and the Almighty God healed him; he was able to kneel, lift his hands, clap, etc. And we all rejoiced. He came to church for about two weeks and after some time, we didn’t see him. We followed him up and he said God healed him not the church. After some months/weeks, I saw the man and he was very sick because he has decided not to dwell and the blessing was taken away from him.

The Bible says, taste and see that the Lord is good. If you are not yet a child of God, you are in a very serious danger physically at a time like this, when the plague is moving around. There is a passage in the Bible that says when I see the blood I will pass over you; when the angel of death sees the blood he will pass over you.

If you are not washed in the blood of the Lamb; if you are not saved and your sin is not gone, run to Jesus now because the Bible says the righteous is taken out of trouble and the wicked goes instead. This is a time of trouble for those who are not in Christ, surrender your life to Christ.
